What has happened is that aesthetic production today has become
integrated into commodity production generally: the frantic economic
urgency of producing fresh waves of ever more novel-seeming goods
(from clothing to airplanes), at ever greater rates of turnover, now
assigns an increasingly essential structural function and position to
aesthetic innovation and experimentation. Such economic necessities
then find recognition in the institutional support of all kinds available
for the newer art, from foundations and grants to museums and other
forms of patronage.

Pope Still Catholic Shock

So the UCU have produced a report advising that market involvement in HE is bad. I'm sure when they set out on this piece of investigative analysis they had no idea that this would be the outcome. I for one am shocked. I think they should follow up this groundbreaking work.

and they still manage to get excited about this...the whole debate has now very aptly reached Private Eye with the University of East London and Essex (acronym U.S.E.L.ESS) offering BAs in Comparative Twitter Research and BSC in Applied Wall-to-Wall Carpeting. Any questions?
